Under the aegis of our dynamic Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Pooja Prashar a two-day workshop on handmade rakhis was held in the college premises from 11th-12th August, 2021. Ms. Dolly Choudhary, Assistant Professor from Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala was the speaker of the day.
A quintessential figure in the realm of artistic creativity, Ms. Dolly delivered a fruitful discourse. More than 150 students from varied programmes of Fashion Designing participated with fervor. They learnt the art of making rakhis. Rakshabandhan is a sacred festival that embodies affection and selfless love which commemorates the pious bond of a brother and a sister wherein sisters tie rakhis on their brothers' wrists and in return the brothers vow protection for their sisters. Handmade and Lumba rakhis were made by students as an expression of this divine love. They employed various craft materials such as colourful papers, threads, stones, pearls and ribbons through techniques like knotting, paper quilling, etc. The principle objective of the speaker was to bring home the idea that the students ought to use waste materials and left overs in a bid to propagate the idea of optimum utilization that too through economic lens. Principal and the members of the managing committee applauded the painstaking endeavours put in by Mrs. Sunita Bhalla, Head of Department of Fashion Designing and the students for leaving no stone unturned. She bolstered the confidence of the students and urged the department to continue organizing such events in the times to come.
